Design Wall Monday

This is as far as I have gotten on queen size quilt for second son. And wouldn't you know one of the planes did a loop on me. I think the south bound planes look like neck ties against a classy blue shirt but then there is that bar across the bottom of the tie, belly up to the bar boys! ha  This is the point where I reconsider buying the quilt designing software it would make it easier to visualize the next round of blocks and get the size right. I hope there is progress this week. I'm thinking there will be flying geese on two sides and maybe saw tooth stars on the other two sides or maybe an 9 patch with alternating squares followed by a round of?????........oh the possibilities.......... and some little spacer pieces to make it fit notice my little red squares between the flying geese. On The Needles

Socks are finished for oldest son who was born on the 40th anniversary of D Day.  And more reading mitts I have a nice pile for hostess gifts.  I have been watching PBS Secrets of the Manor on my kindle, if I prop it just right I can knit.  Secrets of the Manor is a social experiment where volunteers are living in a manor house as they would have in the early 1900's. There are many scenes where a character is talking about their experience or explaining how things were or should have been and social progress.  The servants worked from before breakfast until long after the evening meal, slept and started all over again the next day.  Linking to Judy's OTN. --Ann--

Peonies

Two mornings of hard work in the garden I'm ready for an afternoon off. The old fashioned peonies are just starting to bloom,  the blossoms are so big and heavy that they fall over. --Ann--

Design Wall Monday

ta done! with the quilt top! Sometimes I have to dangle a carrot in front of me to stay focused on projects especially when I am getting close to the end and have a couple other things on the table. Saturday hubby was off and I was going to finish a couple things without interruption (remember hubby was off for the day) After putzing around with laundry and other house hold chores........... to my sewing room. And I wasn't going to stop until all the borders were on this quilt. I had to tidy up so I could sew by then the left over roast beef was calling to me.  At 12:30 the roast won. I had a delicious roast beef sandwich on toasted bread with catsup and lots of lettuce. I love catsup on cold roast beef, bbq sauce has to be heated and not nearly as good. Its a comfort food thing my mother always made cold roast beef sandwiches with catsup. Then the phone rang, a number that called before but I didn't get to the phone in time and they didn't leave a message.  It was my cousin from three states away. We had a wonderful chat, we have so many things in common like quilting and more quilting. She and I really need to get together. Then I called my daughter to tell her about the delightful phone call with my cousin. Finally back to the quilt and no afternoon coffee until it was finished. Finally ta done!! I spread my quilt out and basked in the ta done and savored my cuppa C. Linking to Judy's DWM. --Ann--

on the needles

I've been busy with a lot of things but most not blog worthy. Funny how some weeks are like that. I have done some knitting, I'm almost ready to knit the ribbing of socks for oldest son. The stitch pattern is just 2 rows of k2,p2 then 2 rows of knit, pretty easy pattern.  And I finished a couple pairs of reading mitts.  Self striping yarn really dresses up plain vanilla knitting.  They look like little teapots don't they?!? I should be able to knit another pair from the leftover yarn. They make nice gifts. It is rainy and cool here today so a perfect day for knitting and sewing. On the needles

Knitting has been a little slow the last couple weeks. Might be because I discovered Downton Abbey on my kindle and its hard to knit when I am watching the small screen on my lap rather than the screen across the room.  The characters and story has just drawn me into their world. Can't wait for the next season to be released. I have also been reading The Waiting by Cathy LaGrow for book club it is a true story about adoption and the story starts in South Dakota.  It is the best story I have read in a  long time. finished

This quilt is finished, the wind was challenging as I tried to take a few pictures outside. No new fabric was purchased for the completion of this quilt! I love working from my stash. I had a yard and half of a suitable fabric for the back so I sliced and diced and added odd but suitable fabrics to make it big enough,  and I had odd bits of bias for the binding. Hubby said he liked it maybe I'll make another one just for him I think I have some left over fabrics that I can use. --Ann--
