Tadada done

Some days I just have to finish something, its been basted for months and half quilted for weeks, doesn't that sound like a half baked turkey.   I just quilted my favorite free motion concentric teardrop meanding feather design with a multicolored thread. The pattern is from Miss Rosie's Farmhouse Favorites called Scarlet Begonia, very easy pattern with a churn dash and shoo fly block set on point.  She used the red corner fabric for the borders which reinforced the Scarlet Begonia name, I used the fabrics that I had in the stash.  Fly in the Buttermilk seems more fitting for mine. --Ann--

Design Wall

 I would have a hard time arranging a quilt without a design wall.  A couple decades ago I used to lay the blocks on the floor and that worked but I could only be as far away from the quilt to my eyes while standing beside it, the perspective was different.  To look at the quilt square on from across the room does make choosing fabrics easier and it is more obvious when like fabrics are close together or far apart.
Setting triangle choices and border fabrics, top right fabric looks washed out by comparison.  Either of the other two fabrics will work, I have more of the dark chocolate with poppies and it is about equal in value to the darked fabrics in the blocks.  Maybe I'll finish the top today.  The temps have dropped and the winter coats have moved to front and center of the closet so I don't whine as long when its wiser to choose a warmer coat then a light jacket.  Walking has moved from after supper to mid afternoon to catch the warmth of the sun.  Preparing to hunker down for winter.  --Ann--

However I do not have enough of the red for the outside setting triangles that will either be the milk chocolate brown or the dark chocolate print.  More decisions makes me hungry for chocolate.

Monkey wrenches and Shoo Flies

Yesterday was a good day to spend in the sewing room it was cold, rainy and windy.  So glad it wasn't snow, the shoo fly blocks are done except for the setting triangles and I can't decide which fabric to use, there is limited yardage of each of the reds that will work so the outside triangles will be  a different fabric or I could go scrappy all the way and mix it up with a variety of reds.  I will finish the monkey wrench blocks while I decide.  Today is sunny but just as windy.  --Ann--

 My 7th ta da done for 2016!!  I just quilted with my favorite free motion concentric tear drops.  A warm soak, spin and tumble and its ready to go off to its new home and new baby this weekend.  --Ann--

Design Wall

I spent the weekend machine quilting the pink and yellow shoo fly and I put the boring neutral north wind blocks back on the wall.  I sewed a few more blocks then did some grouping by value.  I need to sew a gazillion half square triangles for the border.  Back to the sewing room and linking to Judy's DWM.  --Ann--

Pink and yellow

Pink and yellow is one of my favorite color combinations.  I had short strips left from the pink fan (click) and log cabin quilt I cut a few yellow strips and made shoo fly blocks then I discovered my short strips of pink were so short that I couldn't sew 4 strips around each block.   Rip, rip, rip on the yellow blocks to make them all mis matched instead of oops I ran out of fabric.  At first I thought a straight set then after playing with the blocks and auditioning several best supporting fabrics, yea sometimes I think of my fabrics  like I'm casting actors in my quilt. Or I look at my fabrics and think that would be so and so from this movies and that movie.  I thought on point was best. Spring has been playing hide and seek with winter, its a good day to sew.--Ann--
