Out of the cupboard

Just a little quit I made 20 some years ago. I recall I started this for a doll quilt for DD but it got too big. I think it was also one of my first attempts at free motions quilting. Looking at it close I had a flash back of practicing a zigzag free motion and moving the fabric back and forth with each stitch of the machine. I stitched around the flowers and foliage so there are some zigzags. I still love that print and it reminds me of DD in her toddler years.
The dress I sewed for her had little angel ruffles and a ruffle at the hem, it buttoned in the front and had little matching bloomers. I made the same pattern with 2 or 3 other floral prints and larger sizes.  Cherishing the memories. --Ann--

out of the cupboard

Changing the quilts on the walls always improves the spirits in the winter. Out with the snowmen and up with the spring baskets.  These blue and yellow baskets are like a sunny day. I made this quilt in 1999 with 6 inch squares of Merryvale fabrics click explanation of Merryvale. Each basket used one 6 inch square of fabric, I cut 2- 2 inch squares and 6 triangles using the easy angle. From the background fabric I cut 3 - 2 inch squares and 2 - 2 x 3 1/2 rectangles and 2 - 2 inch wide triangles using the companion angle and one 3 1/2 inch triangle. The piano key border is cut from 6 x 18 inch strips of Merryvale fabrics. I free motion quilted it on my Bernina. --Ann--

out of the cupboard

I haven't pulled quilts out of the cupboard lately to let them stretch and get the kinks out. The label says I made it in 1999.  Here's one of my favorite spring wall hanging quilts.
The 6 inch baskets are made from 6 inch Merryvale squares, the piano key border was cut from 6" x 18" Merryvale bales. click for explanation of Merryvale. Those small bundles are so wonderful for scrap quilts. Spring still seems far away on the cold, snow covered windy plains, but it makes for a great day to quilt. --Ann--
